One Day Bologna Food Market Visit and Hands-On Cooking Class at Local Italian Family Home

Bologna, capital of Emilia Romagna region -Italian food lovers' paradise- is known all around the world for its tortellini, lasagne and tagliatelle with ragu’ alla Bolognese -bolognese meat sauce-.
For those who want to learn how to make traditional dishes of Bologna and Emilia-Romagna and spend a day with a typical Italian family, we organize daily cooking classes in Bologna center at a private home.
In the morning meeting in Bologna center and visit the colored food market, called “Mercato di mezzo”, where the most beautiful food shops of Bologna are located. The mouthwatering windows show all the Italian first quality products such as prosciutto di Parma, culatello di Zibello, mortadella, zampone, salami, parmigiano reggiano --parmesan cheese--, ricotta, season fruits and vegetables and much more.
During our walking tour in the market, that lasts about two hours, we will explain you about the most important products of the region --how they are produced and how to recognize the real ones-- and we will buy the ingredients for our afternoon Italian cooking class. If you like we will have an espresso coffee or a cappuccino at a central bar.
We will stop at our favorite salumi shop where you can taste some samples of real Balsamic Vinegar of Modena and where we will buy some traditional salumi to taste during the cooking lesson, among which the best mortadella!
Then free time for you to have a light lunch and to enjoy strolling in Bologna beautiful medieval center or to have a rest.
In the afternoon we will meet again for the lesson.
Each of you will be given a beautiful traditional hand-printed apron and a recipe book with our recipes.
The Italian cooking class will be held in English in the kitchen of a private home in Bologna center with a typical Italian family cook; it will be very pleasant to stay together cooking, talking and laughing.
The cooking class lasts about 3 hours or more and consists in the preparation of a full menu that includes 1-2 kinds of hand-made egg pasta, traditional of the region. You can make by hand your own pasta from scratch and roll out your own "sfoglia" with the rolling pin.
Then we will make together the shape of pasta: tagliatelle, tortelloni, tortellini, garganelli or others.
During the lesson we will have a wine aperitif (Spumante/Prosecco) with tasting of traditional salumi and cheeses of the region.
Multi-course dinner will follow of the foods we have prepared together.
Selected regional wines such as Sangiovese are included.
